Florida Neighborhood Hit With a Massive 'Bunny Boom' Invasion

One Florida neighborhood is dealing with the aftermath of what a neighbor left after they moved. This ex-neighbor abandoned her unspayed and unneutered rabbits in the streets when she moved a few years ago, resulting in an invasion of bunnies for the residents.

These rabbits are supposed to be domesticated and live indoors. And with temperatures rising, neighbors are worried the heat will play a toll on whether or not these bunnies survive. Take a look at the news clip from TikTok user @apnews for the full story.

Wow, we've never heard of anything like this. There are an estimated 60 to 100 lionhead rabbits hopping all around the neighborhood, digging holes and chewing through wires. The rabbits themselves don't pose a threat to wildlife, but they're prey to other animals.

"It's absolutely adorable but it's not safe for them. I hope they're able to be relocated safely," wrote @readingmyselfdizzy. Our thoughts exactly! We love rabbits as much as the next person, but it's best if they're rescued and relocated. @gracedelreyyyyy commented, "This has been happening in my town too and it’s so sad a lot of them get hit by cars." Ugh, no! That breaks our hearts.

Relocating the bunnies comes with a hefty price tag. It costs between $20 and $40K to capture, neuter, vaccinate, and shelter these bunnies. Residents are attempting to raise money with the hope that these bunnies will eventually get to their forever homes. The clock is ticking, though. The city council previously voted to exterminate the bunnies, but has since given residents the time to raise money. If you'd like to donate, please visit the GoFundMe page for more information.
