Five Nights at Freddy's Review Roundup
Five Nights at Freddy's is now out in theaters, and first reactions from fans and critics are slowly hitting the internet.
Based on the video game that was first released in 2014, Five Nights at Freddy's stars Josh Hutcherson as Mike, a troubled security guard who begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Soon he realizes that the night shift won't be so easy to get through.
Fans of the game have been excited to see how it will translate to the big screen, but critics have slammed it, and the film currently sits at a 28% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 76 reviews.
Here's some of what they had to say
Associated Press: Caught between PG and R, as well as lost at the crossroads of inadvertent comedy and horror, the PG-13 Five Nights at Freddy's has to go down as one of the poorest films in any genre this year.
New York Times: You may chuckle, but it's hard to tell if the movie is laughing with you.
Collider: Not only does this misfire of a film lack any sense of earned dread, it is comprehensively dull with only brief bursts of silliness. Everything just feels like a hollow skeleton that is as creaky as the ones that hold up its murderous animatronic mascots.
Daily Telegraph (UK): These specimens, courtesy of the Jim Henson company, are just menacing animal effigies being shunted around. Promisingly malevolent but with little going on inside, they feel like what they are: internet memes being pimped out to the point of exhaustion.
What To Watch: Want a good scare this Halloween? My advice would be to stay home, turn the lights down, and play the original Five Nights at Freddy's. You'll have a much better time.
