When is the first day of school for Taunton students?

Taunton students and teachers are enjoying all that summer has to offer, but the new school year is slowly approaching.

In the coming weeks, teachers will begin organizing and decorating their classrooms, getting ready for student arrival at the end of August. Parents and students will begin back to school shopping, checking out clothing trends, backpacks and lunchboxes.

But families have a little time before school buses start filling the streets. Here are the important dates to know before going into the 2024-25 school year, from the first day of school to the last and every day off in between, as approved by the School Committee in April 2024.

First day of school in Taunton

  • Wednesday, Aug. 28: First day of school for grades 1 to 12

  • Thursday, Sept. 5: First day of school for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten

Vacation breaks

The following days and weeks are scheduled holiday vacations with no school for Taunton students:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 27 to Friday, Nov. 29 (Thanksgiving break)

  • Monday, Dec. 23 to Wednesday, Jan. 1 (winter break)

  • Monday, Feb. 17 to Friday, Feb. 21 (February break)

  • Monday, April 21 to Friday, April 25 (April break)

HELPING THOSE IN RECOVERY: New Taunton center supports those in recovery. There is no cost to access services.

Days off, no school

The following are times when students and staff have the day off.

  • Friday, Aug. 30: no school

  • Monday, Sept. 2: Labor Day, no school

  • Monday, Oct. 14: Columbus Day, no school

  • Tuesday, Nov. 5: staff professional development day, no school

  • Monday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day, no school

  • Wednesday, Jan. 1: New Year's Day, no school

  • Monday, Jan. 20: Martin Luther King Day, no school

  • Friday, March 7: staff professional development day, no school

  • Friday, April 18: Good Friday, no school

  • Monday, May 26: Memorial Day, no school

Early release days

  • Thursday, Nov. 21: early release conferences

  • Tuesday, June 17: Last day of school grades 1-11, early release day

Last day of school

The last day of school can change depending on the number of snow days during the winter. If no snow days are used, the following is the last day of school:

  • Tuesday, June 10: last day of school for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students

  • Tuesday, June 17: last day of school for grades 1-11 (early release day)

Graduation

Taunton High School graduation is set for Sunday, June 1.
