Fireworks, parades and more: Fourth of July celebrations ramp up in Springfield area
The skies will light up around the Springfield area beginning this weekend.
Fireworks shows celebrating the Fourth of July are on tap for Springfield, Jacksonville, Chatham and Sherman.
There are also parades in the Village of Jerome and Jacksonville.

Here's what to know:
Lucky Horseshoes baseball
What: The Springfield Lucky Horseshoes have several after-game fireworks promotions this season. The team plays in the Prospect League
Where: Robin Roberts Stadium, 1415 N. Grand Ave. East
When: July 3, vs. Normal CornBelters, 6:30 p.m.; July 4, vs. Normal CornBelters, 6:30 p.m. Also July 13 and July 20.

Pana Tri-County Fairgrounds
What: Fireworks show and Family Night
Where: Pana Tr-County Fairgrounds, 605 N. East 2500 Road
When: Activities, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., fireworks, 9:15 p.m., July 3
Chatham Jaycees Freedom Fest
What: Food and drinks, plus music from Tulo+Eads are on tap before the fireworks.
Where: Chatham Community Park, 731 S. Main St.
When: 5 to 9:30 p.m., July 4. Fireworks at dusk.

Knight's Action Park
What: Springfield band UNCHAiNED gets things started at Trade Winds Pub and Eatery before the fireworks show.

Lake Taylorville
What: The Taylorville Municipal Band will perform patriotic and Americana music before the fireworks.

When: Concert at 7 p.m., fireworks at dusk, July 4 (rain date is July 5)

Rock the Dock
What: There is live music by Deja Voodoo and Joel Honey as well as food and beverage at one of the biggest fireworks displays in central Illinois.
Where: Lake Springfield Marina,17 Waters Edge Blvd.
When: 6 to 11 p.m., July 5. Fireworks at dusk.

Sherman Fireworks Spectacular
What: Coolers and tailgating are encouraged at the park. Vendors on-site.

When: 10 a.m., July 4
Route: The parade will start on Grand Avenue (Morgan County Fairground gate), heading east on West State Street to Central Park, turning right and proceeding counterclockwise around Central Park Plaza, then turning right onto North Main Street.

Village of Jerome
What: Bob Richardson, a 100-year-old World War II veteran, will lead the parade. After the parade, there will be hot dogs, chips and drinks for all the participants and parade-goers.
When: 9 a.m., July 4
Route: The parade will start at the Municipal Building, 2901 Leonard St., with music from Debbie Ross, and proceed north on Leonard, turning right on Glenn Avenue, turning right on Fillmore Avenue and turning right on Jerome.
