Final The Marvels Trailer Seemingly Gives It All Away

You might have missed it, but there’s a Marvel film coming out this week. It’s been a pretty low-key marketing campaign, spreading primarily by word of mouth on social media, with few of the trailers released really gaining much traction. Today, Marvel released a new trailer for its next film, and it might be getting attention for all the wrong reasons.

Marvel revealed the final trailer for The Marvels today, and it’s a 2-minute-long affair that is pretty action packed. We see a bunch of space battles, some young heroes learning to use their new powers, and a dynamic new villain that really does look quite compelling. So what’s the problem? Well, Marvel fans think the trailer just gives too much away.

The first half of the trailer isn’t anything special — it’s mostly just clips from other films, primarily Avengers films, which uh, sure is a choice. I mean, I’m sure The Marvels will be fine, but it certainly seems like the marketing department over at Disney is trying to pull people in by reminding them of bigger, better movies with more cultural sway.

The second half of the trailer is where all the action is. We get to see Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, and Monica Rambeau taking on the villainous Dar-Benn (who looks awesome, by the way, the costume department knocked it out of the park), a few quick shots of Nick Fury, and some battles that look suspiciously like final battle material.

We also get to see the return of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie — a long-rumored but previously unconfirmed Asgardian who previously appeared in Thor: Ragnarok, Avenger: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. Fans have been speculating about her involvement since The Marvels was announced years ago, and now that she’s confirmed, many are complaining on social media that they’d have liked to see her show up in the movie themselves.

Of course, even if Marvel hadn’t included Valkyrie in the trailer, news of her involvement would have quickly spread on social media anyway, so not much has really changed here. The trailer also seemed to tease the X-Men making a cameo in The Marvels, but you’ll likely have to watch the entire film to get there — we expect it’ll probably be a post-credits scene or something along those lines.

At the very least, it’s only 105 minutes long, the shortest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so you won’t have to wait very long to get to that post-credits scene.

The Marvels opens in cinemas this Friday, November 10, 2023.
