My Favorite Room: Designer has a passion for pattern, shapes and colors
Nationally recognized interior designer Kanesha Mitchell says she has always had a passion for seeing beauty in different patterns, shapes, and colors. That knack has gained her and her Greenville business, Tres Chic Home Interiors, attention from brands such as Article Furniture and Etsy.
Kanesha says she enjoys the personalization that comes with each design project, and relishes designing around special requests. As part of the design for this living room, a long-time client asked for a reading nook that did not feel obtrusive. Kanesha says she was delighted that a few weeks after installation was completed, the client sent a photo of her son enjoying his new reading space.
Top 3 tips to recreate the look
Find an item in the design that you love and expound on it. The client provided a pillow she loved because it was filled with color, an important factor for this design. It was a way to keep the vision in mind while giving the space an elevated look.
Texture is a huge element for any design. A range of textures such as wood, velvet, rattan and leather added depth, richness, and complexity to the space. Don’t be afraid to mix different textures to get the desired feel and look.
Kanesha’s motto is “Finding You in Every Detail,” which she says she keeps in mind to ensure each design reflects the client. The goal here was to create a fun, colorful, chic space for the family to unwind. The client also has a love for elephants, which were incorporated into the design. When accessorizing a space, be sure to find pieces that complement the design for the space and the people who will use it.
