Fallout Won’t Pander to Video Game Fans, Says Jonathan Nolan
Fans of the Fallout video game series might not like what the showrunner of its upcoming live-action adaptation has to say.
In a recent press event to promote Fallout’s arrival on Prime Video, Jonathan Nolan explained how his approach to making the series won’t necessarily pander to long-time players of the games.
“I don’t think you really can set out to please the fans of anything,” he said. “Or please anyone other than yourself. I think you have to come into this trying to make the show that you want to make and trusting that, as fans of the game, we would find the pieces that were essential to us about the games, and try to do the best version of those that we can.”
Pleasing everyone is of course an impossible task, so Nolan and his team is right in setting out simply to make the best show they can.
Nolan goes on to say, “I think, you know, it’s kind of a fool’s errand to try to figure out how to make people happy in that way. You gotta make yourself happy. And I’ve made myself very happy with the show.”

Nolan’s not the only happy one. The director of Fallout developer Bethesda, Todd Howard, has given his blessing to the show, pointing out how Nolan’s nailed the vibe.
“I mean, the authenticity they brought to it, the obsessive. We like to say we make the games that we obsess over every pixel. And John and crew, they obsessed over every pixel.”
Fallout hits Amazon Prime Video on April 11.
