Exclusive First Look at Some 'Fun Fun Fun' From 'CBS Presents A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys'

John Stamos, Brandi Carlile, John Legend, Lady A, Michael McDonald, and more pay tribute to the Beach Boys in this two-hours special.

It’s more than 60 years since The Beach Boys released their first single, Surfin’, in 1961, which was the beginning of a music genre that evokes the sounds of California sun and surf, hot cars and girls with titles like "I Get Around," "Surfer Girl,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “Barbara Ann,” “Don’t Worry Baby” and “Good Vibrations.”

Now, the California band with its remaining members—Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks and Bruce Johnston—will be honored with the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award on CBS Presents A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys.

But first, Parade has an exclusive look as John Stamos, who often sits in as a drummer for the group, introduces Luke Spiller & Taylor Momsen performing “Surfin USA/Fun Fun Fun.” See the video above.

Stamos says, “Some people call their music surf music, I call it heart music because it bypasses the mind and goes straight to the heart, reminding us about the things that matter: life, love, friends and family. That’s what makes it so multi-generational. Whether you’re 5 or 75, The Beach Boys music is a part of our DNA.”

In addition, the special will include performances of the above-named songs and more by a plethora of artists, as well as special appearances by Drew Carey, Tom Hanks, Jimmy Jam, Elton John, Harvey Mason Jr. and Bruce Springsteen, who talk about their connection to The Beach Boys.

Springsteen says, “Brian’s great ballads, they always spoke to your loneliness. He was just incredible about reaching in and touching those feelings. His insight into the adolescent heart was really the deepest of anybody out there and it was the most relatable, by speaking so directly to it, it made you feel obviously a lot less alone.”

While Elton John, comments, “The voices, the tone of the voices, was so beautiful, a bit like a classical choir in a way, used in a rock ’n’ roll way. And it just had that incredibly evocative feeling. It just took you out of where you were and took you to another place.”
