Everything We Know About Meghan Markle’s Baby So Far
George, Char and Louis better watch out: Come spring, there’s going to be another little royal crawling around Kensington Palace Frogmore House, and with parents like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the battle for attention is going to be fierce. Here, everything we know about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby so far.

Baby Sussex Is Due in the Spring
Yes, Kensington Palace had previously kept things a bit vague, announcing “Spring 2019” as Meghan’s official due date. However, while in Birkenhead, England, for a royal visit with hubby Harry, Meghan let it slip to a crowd of well-wishers that she’s due between the end of April and beginning of May.
But He or She Won’t Be Delivered at the Lindo Wing
Unlike her royal sis-in-law Kate Middleton, Meghan—who recently moved from Kensington Palace to Frogmore House in Berkshire, England, with Harry—is hoping to give birth at a hospital that’s a bit closer to home. (We definitely don’t blame her for not wanting to trek all the way to London.) The top contender right now? Frimley Park Hospital, which is a cool 30 minutes away, according to the Daily Mail.
Baby Sussex Will Be the First Mixed Race Child Born Into the British Royal Family…Ever
In an exclusive interview with PureWow, Robert Lacey, historian to The Crown, said: “There’s a lot of excitement [in the UK] because [he or she] will be the first-ever mixed race baby.” He added, “We’ve had mixed nationality babies before, obviously, but this will be a new generation of mixed race children.”
And He or She Will Be Seventh in Line to the Throne
Yep, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince Harry will all be up for the position of king or queen before Baby Sussex is on deck.
Baby Sussex Could Be President, Too
Dual citizenship, FTW. Of course, there’s a chance that Meghan could denounce her American citizenship in the future, but she also may keep it, which would mean her baby-to-be can keep his or her political options open. Kind of cool.
Prince Harry Hopes It’s a Girl
While on royal tour in Fiji, Prince Harry revealed that most people are predicting that Meghan is having a girl. And when a royal well-wisher at the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia, shouted out, “I hope it’s a girl!” to Harry and Meghan as they passed by, he was quick to reply, “So do I!” Aw.
And Meghan Has a ‘Long List’ of Baby Names
During her Australian tour with Harry, she said, “We’ve been given a long list of names from everyone. We’re going to sit down and have a look at them.” (Rumor has it the pair will opt for a moniker rich in royal tradition—like Alexander…or Alice.)
There’s a Chance Baby Sussex Could Have Red Hair
It’s a genealogy thing, but since red hair is a recessive gene called MC1R, both parents have to have it for it to passed down to their baby-to-be. So if Meghan has any red hair in her family tree, we could have a royal carrot-top on our hands.
And the Odds Are Good That Prince Harry Will Be a Doting Dad
He already has a nickname for Baby Sussex (“our little bump”), and just like his mom Princess Diana, he's a pro at crouching down to eye level to interact—and better communicate—with kids. He’s also already getting snap-happy, documenting Meghan’s growing belly and proving he’s got impressive photography skills. (Just imagine how full his camera roll will be when his son or daughter arrives.)
