Everything We Know About the Future of 'The Crown'

The time has come to say goodbye to The Crown. The Netflix drama—which chronicles the life and times of the British royal family—premiered the second half of its sixth and final season today. The final batch of episodes takes place after Princess Diana's death and primarily focuses on her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, as they veer into adulthood and acclimate to life without their mother.
Season Six, Part Two takes place in the early-aughts and explores the makings of the modern royal family. The final episodes include Prince William’s college experience at the University of Saint Andrews, where he meets Kate Middleton. We also see his Prince Charles's wedding to Camilla, as well as the deaths of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother. The Crown has had a long and successful run, beginning in 2016 with a portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth II. Since then, the show, created by Peter Morgan, has explored her reign from 1940 to modern times.
Over the years. The Crown amassed a loyal following, so it comes as no surprise that fans are wondering if a surprise seventh season is in the works. Unfortunately, this is the end. There have been rumors of a prequel, but nothing is set in stone. “I have an idea,” Morgan said in an interview with Variety, referring to the prequel buzz. “But first, I need to do some other things. Second, it would need a unique set of circumstances to come together. When asked to clarify, Morgan said, “Yes. If I were to go back into The Crown, it would definitely be to go back in time.”
Even so, it doesn’t sound like Morgan is ready to dive back into the royal fanfare any time soon. While speaking to The New York Times about his next project, he said, “It won’t involve palaces.”
