Yellowstone's prequel series, 1923, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford premiered with a bang. The new series that takes place in, you guessed it, 1923 finds the Dutton clan dealing with a range war, the aftermath of World War I, African safaris and some crooked sheepherders.

What happened on the last episode of 1923?

In the most recent episode, "War and the Turquoise Tide," the Duttons deal with the aftermath of the surprise attack from Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) and his band of sheepherders. With John Dutton, Sr. (James Badge Dale) dead from the melee and Jacob (Harrison Ford) severely wounded, Banner believes he has won the battle, but he hasn't counted on Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren). Cara has thrown a wrench in the works as Banner seeks support from mineral and land baron Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton).

Cara writes to Spencer (Brandon Sklenar), urging him to come home now that John, Sr. is dead. Spencer, who is enjoying a Zanzibar getaway with Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer), is blissfully unaware of what has happened back home in Montana. He has ignored reading any of his aunt's letters until Alexandra urges him to do so. As they read the letters in chronological order, they soon discover with the last letter that Spencer must finally face his demons and return home.

Teonna (Aminah Nieves) continues to suffer at the hands of the Father Renaud (Sebastian Roche) and Sister Mary (Jennifer Ehle), but she soon exacts her revenge, determined they will not break her spirit. How Teonna ties in with the Duttons remains to be seen.
