Elsa Hosk Shows Her Love for Indie Designers
Dress, Cecilie Bahnsen, mytheresa.com.
We at BAZAAR.com asked model and influencer Elsa Hosk to self-style her favorite independently owned fashion brands in May, when most people were still in lockdown and before the racial uprisings that are heralding Black Lives Matter took hold of the zeitgeist.
Indeed, using fashion, beautiful images, and social media as tools for anything but promoting a better humanity and championing Black lives can feel vexatious now—and navigating how to incorporate these things into our lives to serve a positive purpose is something to truly contemplate and consider from a broader mindset. But when we view these platforms through a lens of promoting small businesses, women-owned businesses, and brands owned by Black people in particular, the pursuit of newness and style can feel less frivolous.
Hosk, for her part, has a vested interest in giving social media love to the proverbial little guy. "My boyfriend started a brand a few years ago and a lot of my friends run smaller brands, so I see firsthand how tough it is to stay afloat during a pandemic or a recession. I know how hard they work and how much they appreciate the support. If you know you can put your money towards someone that needs it to stay in business right now, I would 100 percent do that," she says.
The Swedish beauty's effortless approach to style and how she showcases it on her Instagram account is doubtlessly influential. "I think a piece of clothing itself inspires me to put together an outfit a certain way," she says. "I like to look and feel like myself and dress to lift whatever mood I'm in. Inspiration can come from anywhere—movies, pictures, a destination, where I'm at in life—it's always a feeling I want to create. How I dress is an expression of my personality."

"There's something about all of Cecile's pieces that speak to me as a woman. The shapes make me so happy, they're both feminine and empowering.
