My cat loves attention. She has a few foolproof tricks to getting it, too—and unfortunately, they all involve knocking over stacks of books, plants or porcelain mugs I neglected to put away immediately.
While she’s showered with plenty of love, toys and anything else her little kitty mind can possibly want, she has an insatiable appetite for taking up my time, and unfortunately, I don’t currently get paid to play with a laser pointer or toss crinkly balls at her all day long.
if you’re like me and also value your sleep and sanity, let me introduce you to the ultimate game-changer: the SmartyKat Hot Pursuit Electronic Concealed Motion Cat Toy—on sale for $17, down from $30. In fact, I daresay this is the sole reason I manage to get any work done throughout the day.
The magic lies in its simplicity. A concealed wand spins around an attached base, with a cover over the toy to mimic the feel of hunting prey (or your toes under the covers). The spinning is totally unpredictable and goes at varying speeds, so there’s no way for your kitty to crack the secret code.
My cat swats at this thing for hours on end, and has yet to figure out how to get the feather attachment out from under the cover, so it’s a win in my book. It keeps her occupied, and she uses it while I’m away (as evidenced by my pet camera). It even lights up, which drives her somehow even wilder.
The battery-powered magic wand has quite a fanbase, with more than 1,400 shoppers (and many more cats) singing its praises:
High-energy cats love it
One pet parent shared that their kitty loved the toy so much, she dragged the feather toy all the way up her tower—a compliment if there ever was one!
“Huge hit with my 5-year-old Bengal kitty!” the reviewer noted. “If you have a high energy, adventure-seeking friend I bet they would love it too! She started playing with the feather toy when I was putting the batteries in. It’s super lightweight and she drags it around the house with her by the feather... she even got the covering off and dragged the whole thing up her kitty tower with her!”
Easy to assemble
Cats love to break things. Thankfully, this toy is made to be broken—it’s so easy to fix!
“We are thrilled with SmartyKat,” a shopper wrote. “My cat asks to play with it. Love that it turns itself off after 15 minutes. My cat managed to dismember it and my husband just popped it back together. What a well-planned toy.”
Good for older cats
Even if your cat’s idea of a good day is spent curled up napping, this toy is the perfect way to get him to move.
“We have two older/wiser cats and a stray that won our hearts—who plays with this toy? One of the older/wiser cats,” a reviewer shared. “What I love about it too is that it shuts down on its own.”
“I got this for my little kitty—well not so little—Pretzel’s one year birthday,” another shopper added. “Didn’t think that my older cat Simba would love it too. It’s easy to put together... Pretzel was having so much fun and soon after Simba joined in. It’s been 20 minutes and they are still playing. I have a cat babysitter!”
