Eighth Child Reported dead From IKEA Dresser
ABC News reports two-year-old Jozef Dudek was allegedly killed in May when an IKEA dresser tipped over on top of him. The same dresser, which was recalled last year is reportedly responsible for seven other small children’s deaths.
The dresser that reportedly killed Jozef was of the Malm family - before the child’s death, 29 million of the same dressers in the same line were recalled for tipping over when not properly secured. Dudek family lawyer Daniel Mann told ABC that’s exactly what happened to Jozef during his nap time and that family is “absolutely distraught” over his death.
IKEA issued a statement to ABC saying “Our hearts go out to the affected family, and we offer our sincere condolences during this most difficult time. The initial investigation indicates that the chest involved in this incident had not been properly attached to the wall.”
The company is offering full refunds or free wall-anchoring kits to those who still have the dressers.
