All-you-can-eat Korean barbecue joint opens in the South Bay
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — For those in the South Bay, you no longer have to make the trek to the Convoy District to enjoy some Korean barbecue.
A brand new all-you-can-eat joint, called Sura Korean BBQ, has officially opened its doors in the Otay Ranch area of Chula Vista. The same team behind the popular Common Theory Public House created the hybrid concept.
Located at t 1960 Optima St., the 4,500-square-foot eatery has 32 tables that are all equipped with a gas grill for cooking up meats like brisket, beef belly, chicken, steak, shrimp and more. The tiered meats are delivered directly to tables.

There are three all-you-can-eat pricing tiers: $36.99 for classic, $44.99 for premium, and $56.99 for Sura (which means “king’s meal” in the Korean language). Each option includes access to the cold buffet line with more fresh meat and side dishes, the hot buffet line with various cooked dishes, and unlimited soda and soft serve ice cream.
Pricing is cheaper for shorter eaters. Kids under 36 inches tall eat free, while kids from 36 to 42 inches in height can enjoy any of the three tiers for $12.99. As for children between 43 and 56 inches tall, their meals are 50% off.
“Our goal is to bring high quality Korean barbecue to the South Bay and minimize travel to the Convoy District,” said Joon Lee, one of the creators behind the concept. “Our hybrid system makes us unique with meat brought to your table, meat on the buffet line, and all the other great hot and cold options. We feel there’s something for everyone, and who doesn’t love ice cream?”

Sura has a two-hour time limit for each table. Guests that finish their meal within one hour can receive discounts for a return visit.
“It’s time to feast on meat in the South Bay,” said Cris Liang, another creator behind the concept. “It’s going to be a fun atmosphere watching our guests eat to their heart’s content as Sura will provide another option for those in East Chula Vista who want to save a little at the gas pump instead of making the roughly 50-mile round trip to the Convoy District.”
The restaurant opens at 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and at 11:30 a.m. Thursday through Sunday. Parking is available in an adjacent dirt lot and on several surrounding streets.
