Dune: Part Two Grosses Half a Billion
Dune: Part Two might be on track to crack a billion at the box office.
The epic sci-fi film has only been out for two weeks and has already matched its 2021 predecessor. It currently sits at a $500 million global haul - that’s how much Dune generated in its entire run.
That makes Dune: Part Two the highest-grossing film of 2024 at the domestic and worldwide box office so far, with $208 million in North America and $289.4 million internationally.
Based on the second half of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune, the sequel follows Timothée Chalamet as he continues his epic quest to unite a native populace against vicious colonial rulers.
Not only is it a commercial smash, but hit big with critics, too. It’s got a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes compared with Dune’s 83%, and is even 11th on IMDB’s list of greatest all-time films.
Big things are expected for its sequel. Speaking of which, Dune 3 is almost finished, confirms director Denis Villeneuve.
