'Duck Dynasty' star Rebecca Robertson reveals miscarriage: 'It makes my heart ache'
Former Duck Dynasty star Rebecca Robertson Loflin has been holding a painful secret close to her chest over the past few weeks. In an Instagram post earlier this week, the 32-year-old revealed that she recently experienced a miscarriage.
“I haven’t really been myself the last couple of weeks, and I’ve debated whether or not to share about this on here,” the post begins, which features several family photos of herself, son Zane, and husband John Reed Loflin. Robertson Loflin revealed how difficult it’s been to field questions from friends and relatives asking when she might finally have another baby.
“It makes my heart ache every single time,” she confessed. The news comes just days after her sister and fellow Dynasty alum Sadie Robertson announced she would be having a baby girl with husband Christian Huff.
Robertson Loflin, who came to the United States as an exchange student and was later adopted by Willie and Korie Robertson, said she found out she was pregnant some weeks ago but kept it a secret in hopes of surprising her family during the holidays.
“But when I woke up on October 29th that morning in a pool of blood I knew something was very wrong,” she said in the post. After a trip to the doctor, she found out she’d suffered an early miscarriage. While there are various ways in which one can lose a pregnancy, a miscarriage is specifically a pregnancy loss that occurs before 20 weeks gestation. According to Mayo Clinic, roughly 10 to 20 percent of all pregnancies end this way, and most occur due to chromosomal abnormalities.
While she initially considered keeping the experience a secret, Robertson Loflin says she felt compelled to tell her followers in order to let them know that life is full of “hurdles & trials.”
“Sharing it actually has helped me heal,” she wrote and expressed her heartbreak over all the others who have also dealt with such a loss. Her followers meanwhile shared their condolences to the grieving mother.
“Praying for you and your sweet family Rebecca. So so sorry,” commented Christian music singer Kolby Koloff.
“Praying for you friend. We ourselves have been through two miscarriages. Each one heartbreaking. But it’s so important to talk about it. Proud of you @rebeccalorobertson.” said photographer Andrew James Baijan, who also photographed Rebecca and John’s wedding back in 2018.
“I’m so very sorry. There is no heartache like loss. Early loss, later loss, whenever it is...it’s loss. You are seen,” said user @cmboeckmann. And user @stephanie.d.letchworth added: “Your transparency will help so many people. Thank you for your honesty. So sorry for your loss!”
Robertson Loflin isn’t the first celebrity to reveal a miscarriage to her fans. Kimberly Van Der Beek, wife to James Van De Beek, opened up about her 5 miscarriages on “The Make Down” podcast earlier this year. Actress Kate Beckinsale recently disclosed a miscarriage she had years ago. And “Vanderpump Rules” star Scheana Shay also revealed her own miscarriage this past summer.
