Dual Master Bedrooms Are Trending
Forget walk-in closets and dual shower heads: what if you had a master suite all to yourself?
It’s the new thing, according to this article from Architectural Digest, and more and more couples are shelling out the money to turn this dream into a reality. You know Charlotte’s Book is already a big fan of sleeping separately, so we’re thrilled about the news.
Contrary to popular belief, it’s less to do with lack of love or romanticism and more to do with practicality. According to Ralph Choeff, principal of Miami firm Choeff Levy Fischman
, the emerging trend of dual master suites can be explained by “an evolution of not only sleeping habits but bathroom habits, work schedules, and simply personal space that most of our clients frankly can afford.”
In other words, it comes down to people having different needs or opposing schedules: you’re a morning person and your husband’s a night owl, or your spouse prefers to sleep in a cold room while you prefer it warm. And if you can afford it, two master bedrooms is the practical solution.
The bottom line: Having two separate bedrooms doesn’t automatically mean you’ve lost your spark or you’re doomed for divorce. In fact, couples who seek out separate bedrooms recognize that by addressing their own needs for personal space and quality sleep, they’re actually helping their relationship in the long run.
And don’t forget the glowing skin. Nighttime is the skin’s most important time to regenerate since it doesn’t have to spend all of its energy fending itself from daily aggressors like UV exposure, and pollution, says Sonia Badreshia-Bansal, MD, a board certified dermatologist and a clinical instructor at the University of California, San Francisco. If you’re not sleeping enough, or sleeping badly, it’s showing up in your skin. Sleep is the crucial time when your body generates HGH (human growth factor), and if you don’t reach these levels of deep sleep, you’re essentially aging yourself.
Nobody wants that, do they?
