'Drinkable' potato chips are Japan's solution to snacking while scrolling
A snack maker in Japan has come up with an idea meant to keep our phone screens grease-free while we’re scrolling and snacking. The idea? Drinkable potato chips.
Tokyo company Koike-ya named its new snack food One Hand Chips, and is calling them the “new snack style humankind has been waiting for.” The chips come pre-smashed so you can pour them into your mouth, as you would with the crumbs at the bottom of a bag. The company showcased its invention on Twitter at the end of 2018, and thanks to a feature in the Wall Street Journal this week, One Hand Chips are now going viral in the U.S.

Koike-ya told the Journal that the idea for the drinkable snack originally came from the desire to make it easier for people to eat the delicious crumbs at the bottom of the bag. The fact that the new snacking system also keeps your phone grease-free is icing on the proverbial cake.
Many on social media are already loving the idea:
Genius. 💡

Drinkable potato chips are not the first snack item made with phone and electronics use in mind. In 2017 McDonald’s introduced the frork, which allows diners to eat fries without getting fry grease on their phones. Meanwhile, gamers have long used chopsticks to eat snacks to avoid getting their controllers greasy.
As for One Hand Chips, Koike-ya says the product is part of “a line of splintered potato chips and other snacks that can be consumed like a bottled drink.” What do you think? Is this the future of snacking? Or are drinkable chips a step too far?
