Downtown restaurant has new name, new menu items, same beloved chef
EVANSVILLE – The restaurant formerly known as NOMOD in the Main Street Food & Beverage Food Hall has a new name, a partially new menu, and the same chef whose cooking you’ve come to love.
Cory Wildy had been NOMOD’s kitchen manager since shortly after the restaurant opened. He’s a culinary veteran with years of experience in restaurants around Evansville.
“Cooking has always been a passion of mine since I was a child,” he said. “I’ve been working in restaurants ever since I could, since I was 15 or 16.
“When we first opened and it was NOMOD, Andy Wood, who was overseeing the kitchen at the time, was opening both the restaurant and the bar here so he brought me in to manage the restaurant kitchen. We’ve worked together at multiple places.”
When Wood moved on from the food hall last fall, Wildy officially took over NOMOD. He’d already implemented many of his own recipes and continued to do so, then, in June, changed the restaurant’s name to Chef Lo on the Go.
On the menu at Chef Lo on the Go
Some of the classic NOMOD dishes are still there, such as the gourmet smashburgers, hand-cut fries, fun tacos and crispy brussels sprouts, but there is a lot of new stuff as well. These include:
Loaded Pots – Potatoes, which might be fries, tots or, soon, baked potatoes, are loaded with your choice of spicy chicken and queso; chicken, bacon and ranch; or surf and turf with grilled chicken, shrimp, queso, bacon and jalape?os.
Pineapple Bacon Smash Burger – Wildy invented this for Evansville Burger Week and it won every category including best value, most unique, and overall favorite, so clearly it’s on the regular menu now. It’s a smash burger with sweet and spicy aioli, grilled pineapple, mozzarella cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato.
The Fat Mack Smash Burger – Named after Wildy’s son, this one is two patties with griddled onions between, topped with American and pepper jack cheeses, four pieces of bacon and veggie dressings.
There are also new daily and weekly specials.
“Those are the big deal,” Wildy said. “That’s what keeps people coming down here.”
