DJ Khaled Says Golf Helped Him Lose Nearly 25 Pounds

When you think of sports that help with weight loss, golf probably isn't the first thing to come to mind, so much as activities such as weight lifting, basketball, or cycling. But DJ Khaled is crediting the leisure sport with his recent weight loss, and is down a total of about 25 pounds.

Khaled is such a fan of golf that he's even partnered with the 2023 Ryder Cup, which will be held in Guidonia, Italy from September 28 through October 1.

While promoting the partnership, the 47-year-old musician opened up about his love of the game and how it's helped him along his weight loss journey. Last month, Khaled revealed that he had lost 20 pounds playing golf, and as he explained to US Weekly, he's now down four more pounds.

"It’s a never-ending story recall. You just keep getting better,” Khaled told the publication. "Or you might have days where it’s just [OK], but while you’re [playing] through all that, you still have to find this place called calm."

Khaled, who first revealed that he dropped nearly 50 pounds back in 2019, says that his daily golf outings—which range from nine or 18 holes at the driving range—have helped him get back to his routine. He says his day starts with a "light breakfast" and vitamins before heading to the green, where he also multitasks while working.

"I enjoy it. I handle my business so well because I’m either out there by myself or if I’m playing with my friends or my business partners," he continued. "I do it every day and I get a chance to sit on the golf cart or walking about to answer an email or a call and handle my business."

"It’s so much [more] pleasurable, meaning [being around] the nature, the sun," he added. "It cleanses me. It’s almost like going in the ocean without going in the ocean."

According to golf fitness expert and Titleist Performance Institute certified coach Joe Macro, golf is actually an excellent way to lose weight.

"If you consider that during 18 holes of golf, a golfer (regardless of handicap) will walk in excess of 10,000 steps and will cover on average 6.5 miles," Marco told the website Fun Golf UK in 2021. "Now that might be hard to relate to, but if you think that the average adult walks between 3,000 to 4,000 steps per day, now golf seems a pretty good way to lose weight."
