How to get 'Diving Catch', the newest Terrapin collaboration with Braves legend Andruw Jones
Perhaps you enjoyed a cold one at the ballpark while watching Andruw Jones make one of his iconic diving catches in centerfield during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Now, baseball's favorite adult beverage is joining forces with one of baseball's best to ever roam the outfield.
Athens' own Terrapin Brewing has partnered with the Atlanta Braves legend to create 'Diving Catch', a crisp kolsch beer with a 5% ABV that has a 'twist of curacao orange' as a nod to Jones' birth country Curacao.
"The beer is refreshingly light and citrusy with 5% ABV and is named after Jones’ signature move on the field," said Terrapin Co-President Dustin Watts. "Jones even had a hand in brewing the beer directly."
Jones was a 10-time Gold Glove winner whose No. 25 was retired by the Braves organization last September.
At the moment, Diving Catch Kolsch is only available at the Athens taproom and the Terrapin taproom at Truist Park.
Terrapin has long collaborated with the Atlanta Braves. It produces a Mexican Lager, Los Bravos, and Chopsecutioner, a Braves-themed take on its popular Hopsecutioner IPA.
Terrapin kept with the baseball theme by creating 'Pitch Clock IPA', a collaboration with Leinenkugels, a brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, that claims to be the seventh oldest brewery in America.
Leinenkugels and Terrapin are both majority owned by Molson Coors.
"We love creating delicious brews for baseball fans to enjoy, especially at our location at Truist Park," Watts said. "And our friends up north at Leinenkugel’s also know how to make a great ballpark beer, so we thought it would be fun to team up and create something new for our hometown teams."
The Pitch Clock name comes from Major League Baseball's implementation of a pitch clock last season to speed up the game. The rule knocked off more than 20 minutes of game time in the 2023 season.
The beer can only be found at Truist Park in Atlanta, American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, and at the Athens taproom.
"We’ve been in talks for a while about doing a collaboration that would infuse our expertise in IPAs with Leinenkugel’s punch of flavor," Watts said. "Given our mutual love for the sport and strong brewery presence at both our hometown stadiums, it was the perfect recipe for us to release Pitch Clock Cold IPA. Our brewing experts from both breweries worked together in collaboration to create one home run of an IPA."
