Disney's Animal Kingdom Introduces Their Brand New Baby Elephant
The Disney Animal Kingdom has an adorable brand new addition: A baby elephant named Corra. She was born on December 13 and has already made herself at home with her mom.
Little Corra is sure to be a highlight of guests’ visits to the theme park. She is just so tiny compared to her mom, Nadirah.
The little four-day-old elephant is surely exploring her environment and getting accustomed to the world around her. She looks kind of taken aback by it all. She will get used to everything soon enough!

The staff members and public both have the arrival of Corra. African elephants have a gestation period of 22 months, the longest of any animal. People have been waiting almost two years for this amazing elephant!
Elephants are great mothers that take really good care of their young. In the wild, females flock together and help care for one another’s babies.
Fun Facts About Elephants
The African Savanna elephant is the world’s largest land animal. Adult males have tusks that can weigh up to 200 pounds alone. Due to the ivory their tusks are made of, the males are often targets of poaching.
Elephants also weigh a lot upon birth. They can weigh anywhere from 200 to 300 pounds when they’re born. Those are some big babies!
Elephants, despite their size, can swim very well and use their trunks to breathe and transport water into their mouths. An elephant’s trunk can hold 2.5 gallons of water at a time, averaging to about 25 to 50 gallons of water per day. That’s a lot of water!
Elephants spend most of their time foraging for food. They may feed for up to 16 hours per day. In the wild, they can consume as much as 600 pounds of food in a single day if they’re really hungry. Despite this, they usually only eat 250 to 300 pounds of food a day.
Due to their large size, elephants only have a pulse rate of around 27 beats per minute. A canary, on the other hand, has a heart rate of 1,000! That’s a big difference, but it’s all due to the size of the animal and how long it takes to pump blood to the rest of their body.
In captivity, elephants have the opportunity to show off just how smart they are. These extremely intelligent animals can learn up to 60 commands. Corra may just learn some in her days at the Animal Kingdom!
