The Simpsons, The Muppets, most of The Avengers movies, Star Wars, Cinderella, Frozen, these favorites and so many more will be pulled from other streaming services and available only on the new Disney Plus (which also identifies as Disney+).
It’s true: Disney is pulling together its vast storehouse of movies and TV shows — some of which it created and some, like the movies of the Marvel universe, that it acquired — into one amazing well-curated service that guarantees there’s always something fantastic to watch. And all for just $7 a month! There’s even a free trial — enjoy seven days of Disney+ for no charge, and see if you like it.
This streaming service is really something special — a deeply curated archive that includes more quality entertainment than you can imagine (and no junk).
While everyone knows Disney as the movie studio behind animated classics like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Lilo & Stitch, and Moana, not everyone is clued in on the insane storehouse of titles under the Walt Disney Company umbrella — and available on Disney+.
Take a gander below, at some of the treasures available on Disney+. You might be surprised — and you’ll definitely be delighted.
All the Disney princesses
Remember the agony of waiting for Disney to release classics like Pinocchio, The Jungle Book, and Fantasia on video? Well, for Disney+, the company is opening up The Vault: The entire animation catalog will be available on Disney+ from Day One. As soon as you subscribe, every animated Disney movie from Cinderella to Ralph Breaks the Internet will be yours for the streaming.
Freaky Friday, anyone?
Disney+ also offers every single live-action Disney movie, including favorites like the original Freaky Friday (Jodie Foster!) and the real Parent Trap (Hayley Mills!). Reacquaint yourself with old friends like Herbie the Lovebug, Old Yeller and more. The nostalgia is delicious. And sharing these wonderful films with family and friends is a pleasure.
There are also lots of wonderful Disneynature documentaries, such as Penguins, Expedition China, Ghost of the Mountains and more.
Woody, Buzz, and Nemo!
Disney acquired Pixar in 2006,
If anyone in your home (or any frequent visitors) might find delight in Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Inside/Out or anything else in Pixar’s impressive catalog, know that Disney+ has every single Pixar feature film — plus all of the Pixar short films available to subscribers.
Iron Man, aka Robert Downey Jr. (and those other superheroes, too )
In case you’re superhero-challenged (as in, you can’t tell Avengers from X-Men), we’re going to say this plainly, in a way you can copy and forward to your 20something kids (you know, to lure them back to the nest):
Disney+ has every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, short film and animated series. This includes all 23 movies in the “Infinity Saga” in the future. That means Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and all the rest.
In addition, Disney+ has all the animated X-Men TV series, such as X-Men (1992), Wolverine and the X-Men and X-Men Evolution. It’s expected that all of the X-Men movies will appear on Disney+ too, but later on.
Star Wars
In 2012, Disney acquired all of Lucasfilm, which includes every movie in the Star Wars Saga: It even encompasses all the new movies and spin-offs, such as The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Rogue One and Solo. If your home includes a fan of “a galaxy far, far away,” then Disney+ is a must!
The Simpsons & The Muppets
Disney+ will be the only place you can stream your beloved Simpsons. And Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and the rest of the Muppets gang are here in their classic flicks (The Muppet Movie, and more). The Muppet Show is expected to come to Disney+ later on.
The Disney Channel series your kids loved
Was your family heavily into Disney Channel sitcoms and animated shows in the ’90s and beyond? Disney+ has all the winners. From Lizzie McGuire to Hannah Montana, from Kim Possible to Phineas and Ferb. From That’s So Raven to Wizards of Waverly Place.
Disney+ is even planning to release a TV series version of High School Musical.
Nature shows from National Geographic
Are you wild about wildlife? Disney owns the entirety of National Geographic, so most of Nat Geo’s programing will appear on Disney+. This includes breathtaking TV shows and documentaries like Amazing Planet, Free Solo, Science Fair, Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue, and more.
Brand new original programming
Disney+ will produce plenty of excellent new shows and movies, too. For Star Wars fans, The Mandalorian — a show that follows a lone gunfighter making his way through the Outer Rim, starring Pedro Pascal (of the Netflix TV show Narcos) — is now available to stream, while the Mouse House’s new live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp features an all-star cast voicing characters (like the new remakes of The Jungle Book and The Lion King). In this new take on the dog-tale, you’ll hear Tessa Thompson, Justin Theroux, Sam Elliott, and Janelle Monáe.
Bottom line
Disney+ is offering a free seven-day trial for new subscribers. If you decide to keep the service, the cost is just $7 per month — or $70 for the whole year (that’s a savings of $14!). If you want to add Hulu and ESPN+ for $13 per month for all three streaming services, sign up now.
