Watch the Full Trailer for 'Dickinson' Season 3
Dickinson season two premiered on Apple TV+ back in January, but since then, fans have been on tenterhooks wondering when the show's third season will arrive—and what to expect once it does.
Here's what we know so far.
Dickinson is returning this fall.
The series was renewed for season three months ahead of its season two premiere this January, though it was later confirmed that the show's third outing will also be its last. In September, the show finally announced the news that the third and final season of Dickinson will debut on November 5, 2021. As with season two, the third 10-episode season will premiere with three all new episodes at once, followed by an episode a week through December 24.
Along with the announcement, Apple also shared a teaser trailer (above) that offers tantalizing hints of what's ahead for our favorite poet.

In October 2021, Apple released the full trailer for Dickinson's third and final season. Violence and chaos breaks out in light of the Civil War—as Lavinia says in the trailer, "Civil War ruins everything."

It will take place during the Civil War.
While specific details of the third season's plot haven't been released, we do know that it will be set during the American Civil War, per the official synopsis:
In the third season, Emily Dickinson’s most productive time as an artist falls amid the raging American Civil War and an equally fierce battle that divides her own family. As Emily tries to heal the divides around her, she wonders if art can help keep hope alive, and whether the future can be better than the past.
It was already written before Season 2 debuted.
Creator Alena Smith told T&C that the pandemic influenced how the season three scripts were written—and that she "didn't know that when I started writing a show about Emily Dickinson that we'd be living through a situation that trapped everybody in their own houses." Smith explained, "We were writing season three over the summer and fall in the pandemic, and I would say that that experience certainly came to bear on the writing of season three."
Expect the major characters to return.
Hailee Steinfeld, of course, will return as the titular poet, as will cast mates Jane Krakowski, Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt, Toby Huss, and Adrian Blake Enscoe. It wouldn't be Dickinson without the Dickinsons. Other returning cast members include Adrian Blake Enscoe, Amanda Warren, Zosia Mamet and Chinaza Uche as well as Wiz Khalifa as the character Death.
Alongside the established cast, we can also expect some new faces, including Ziwe as Sojourner Truth, Billy Eichner as Walt Whitman, and Chloe Fineman as Sylvia Plath.
