Diana Gabaldon Plans to Expand the Outlander Universe with a Book About Master Raymond
Outlander fans could someday see Claire and Jamie as side characters in a story about time traveler Master Raymond. Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander book series which inspired the Starz television show, has spoken out about wanting to write a separate book about the mysterious apothecary who crosses paths with the Frasers very briefly in Paris.
In the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of her website, Gabaldon explains that Master Raymond is not only a time traveler and a shaman, but also a distant relative of both Claire and Geillis.
"We’ll see him again–though not in Jamie and Claire’s story, I don’t think," she writes.
"Master Raymond should get his own series of books, eventually. So in fact, we’ll see Claire, Jamie, and Geillis again, then– but as secondary characters in Master Raymond’s story (you recall, Geillis mentions having met “one other” (time-traveler) in Voyager, but doesn’t tell Claire who it is)."
While Outlander fans shouldn't hold their breath waiting for a text centered around Master Raymond, Gabaldon has officially started writing it. Last fall, she shared a sneak peek of the book's prologue on social media.

In a thin time, they say, you must be careful, because you might walk through a cobweb unthinking, and find yourself Elsewhere.

And she recently brought it up again in an interview with one of the Outlander show producers, Maril Davis. "When stuff bubbles up, I write it down. I have little pieces for all kinds of books, including the prequel about Jamie’s parents, and Master Raymond’s book," Gabaldon said.
