Demi Moore Revealed Why Her Relationship With Aging Has Shifted Dramatically
Demi Moore’s film The Substance has made ageism a hot topic this year on every red carpet. At 62, the actress knows how Hollywood often treats women in this season of life, but she’s learned to give herself more grace over the years and it’s changed her perspective.
“I can look back and go at 20, at 30 I was finding things that weren’t good enough,” she explained to People at the 2024 Gotham Awards on Dec. 2. “My relationship with [aging] now is much more in a joyous acceptance. Of course, there’s things that you go, ‘Oh I wish that was not that way,’ but in terms of the whole, I see myself and the fullness of who I am as opposed to just the external idea of who I am.”

Moore noted that she wasted time passing “judgment against myself” and she’s done policing her looks or her body — it’s a time to be grateful for her health and strong body. She admitted to Elle in November that she put her body through a “lot of torment” in her younger years. “I changed my body multiple times through different roles, and I think I chose those roles, whether it was conscious or not, for the very opportunity to find some peace and self-love,” she said.
Fans can’t forget her roles in G.I. Jane, Indecent Proposal, and Striptease because the media talked so much about her body transformation. In 1993, she would do a 60-mile commute to and from the set of Indecent Proposal just after having her second daughter, Scout.
“I was feeding [Scout] through the night, getting up in the dark with a trainer, with a headlamp, biking all the way to Paramount, wherever, even on location where we were shooting; then shooting a full day, which is usually a 12-hour day; and then starting all over again,” she told CBS Sunday Morning in September. It sounds bananas to even think Moore would attempt that rigorous training schedule and even now, she describes that mentality as “so crazy, so ridiculous.”
So, Moore is telling everyone to give their body and mind a break from the negative dialogue. It’s time to love yourself no matter what age you are.
