Demi Lovato Debuted a Mullet on Their First Red Carpet Since Coming Out as Nonbinary
Just over a week after coming out as non-binary, Demi Lovato arrived at the iHeartRadio Music Awards wearing an open blazer, diamond lariat necklace, and a mullet. The look included head-to-toe purple details, from the color of the outfit to Lovato's purple manicure and smoky eye. The event marks the very first red carpet that Lovato has attended since shifting pronouns to they/them and announcing that they are embracing gender fluidity after a year and a half of "healing and self-reflective work."
Their suit included wide-leg pants and bold, broad shoulders. Lovato's necklace fell between wide lapels and she finished the look with blingy rings and high platform shoes.

"Over the past year-and-a-half, I've been doing some healing and self-reflective work," Lovato said during their podcast, 4D with Demi Lovato. "And through this work, I've had the revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I'll be officially changing my pronouns to they/them. I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and am still discovering."

"I think it's important because I want to use these pronouns that feel right to me," Lovato added. "I also just don't want people to be so afraid of messing up that they don't try to use them."
According to Billboard, Lovato will be paying tribute to Elton John at tonight's show. They join Brandi Carlisle and H.E.R. "The three singers chosen to perform during the tribute each reflect an aspect of John's varied musical personality," Billboard explained.
