Dallas high school student filmed punching substitute teacher in class
A physical altercation between a Dallas substitute teacher and a student is under investigation by authorities.
Although it isn’t clear what caused the incident, videos shot by a fellow student capturing the incident surfaced on Friday. The footage shows the two engaging in a verbal confrontation, followed by the student shoving the teacher to the ground. He then punches the teacher, while several students seem to encourage him in the background.
The teacher attempted to fend off the student by lifting his legs in defense, only to have the student push his legs out of his way. The student goes on the pummel the teacher with his fists.
Sandra Verduzco, a spokeswoman with the Dallas Independent School District, told WFAA8 Dallas that the student has been disciplined “according to district’s policy” and that the district is moving quickly to fill professional vacancies at the school so it can monitor the large number of students. Skyline High School, where the incident occurred, is the largest school in that district.
According to teachers, this wasn’t the only fight at Skyline High that day.
CBS DFW reports that the teacher was treated for his injuries, and the student has been suspended and could face criminal charges.
