If you live in the New York area, it's a cinch to take a cruise - just get yourself to one of its three cruise terminal locations, which includes Manhattan (the West Side piers), Red Hook (Brooklyn), and Cape Liberty (in Bayonne, New Jersey, but considered an NYC port). Even if you don't live nearby, there's no better city to start or end your cruise in, so why not tack on a few days to explore the Big Apple? Here are are the some of the best cruises from NYC.

Bermuda

Norwegian's Escape has a 7-day Bermuda cruise (departures in April through November) from NYC that has plenty of days at sea, so you can relax on board and enjoy the ship's spa, pool, casino, and many restaurants, including Cagney's Steakhouse and the 24-hour O'Sheehan's pub. You'll have 3 nights in Bermuda, where you can check out attractions like the Royal Naval Dockyard, and, of course, Bermuda's pink-sand beaches.

If you're looking for a shorter jaunt to Bermuda, Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas has a 5-night cruise (departures in May through mid-October) that offers 2 days at sea and 2 days in port.

While you're on the island, make sure to rent a moped, so you can visit places like St. George's, first settled by the British in 1612, and beaches like Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay.

The Caribbean

Carnival has an 8-day Eastern Caribbean cruise (departures in July and September) aboard the Carnival Sunrise ship, which - in addition to several days at sea - calls in at San Juan in Puerto Rico, named one of Fodor's Go List 2019 destinations, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, and Grand Turk in Turks and Caicos. On board, you'll find plenty to keep yourself busy, including water slides, a comedy club, and Guy's Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse from Food Network star Guy Fieri.

Royal Caribbean has an 8-night Bermuda and Bahamas cruise (departures in mid-May through early August) aboard Adventure of the Seas that has a stop in Bermuda, followed by visits to the cruise line's private CocoCay island and Nassau, where you can lunch on conch fritters and rum punches, and shop in the Straw Market. Plus, there are a few days at sea, so you can take advantage of the ship's rock climbing wall and full-service spa.

Transatlantic

Cunard's Queen Mary 2 offers a 7-night Eastbound Transatlantic Crossing (departures in April and May) that starts in NYC and crosses the Atlantic Ocean, with a final stop in Southampton, England (less than 2 hours from London).

While on board this elegant ship, you can partake in afternoon tea, catch a show in the Planetarium, have a massage in the Canyon Ranch SpaClub, and dine in the beautiful Britannia dining room.

New England

Norwegian's Escape offers a 7-day Canada and New England cruise (departures in September), which departs from New York, calling in at Portland, recently named the country's top foodie city, and Bar Harbor in Maine, then heading north of the border to Canada, stopping in Halifax in Nova Scotia and Saint John in New Brunswick. You'll enjoy a day at sea before heading back to the Big Apple.

If you're looking for a longer itinerary, consider the 10-night Canada and New England cruise (departure in September) aboard Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. A sampling of stops include Portland, Halifax, Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, and Quebec City. Plus, you'll have 2 days at sea.
