Courteney Cox Shares a Favorite 'Friends' Moment to Remember Matthew Perry
Tributes continue to pour in for Friends cast mate Matthew Perry, who died more than two weeks ago at age 54 after being discovered unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home. And now, Perry's onscreen girlfriend (and eventually wife) Courteney Cox has become the latest to share a few words about her longtime friend and colleague.
"I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day," the 59-year-old actress wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday afternoon. "When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites."
Cox recalled the Season Four, 1998 episode of Friends, "The One with Ross's Wedding," in which Monica (Cox), Chandler (Perry), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) travel to London for the wedding of David Schwimmer's character. Of course, any true fan of the series knows that this was the episode that likewise launched the relationship between Chandler and Monica.
"To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London," Cox explained, alongside a brief clip from the episode, in which Ross very nearly catches his sister and friend in bed together. "But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story."
"In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say," she added. "He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind."
Earlier on Tuesday, LeBlanc shared his own personal tribute, following a group statement from the cast on Oct. 30.
"Matthew, it is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life," the 56-year-old wrote in an Instagram post. "It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never."
"Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love," he concluded, adding a tongue-in-cheek: "And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me."
