Couple postpones wedding, gets surprise gift from stranger they accidentally emailed

A Boston couple received a heartwarming gift from a stranger who accidentally received an email meant for the wedding guests.

Last week, a woman named Akilah Daniels shared a Facebook post explaining that she and her fiancé Devon Vincent postponed their upcoming wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic. They informed all their guests over email, however a typo led to a kind stranger receiving the message.

“This wonderful person not only contacted me to let me know that it was sent to the incorrect sender, but ALSO purchased something off our registry as a goodwill gesture! I am so utterly touched!” Daniels wrote on Facebook. The post included a screenshot of the email and a notification from Zola, an online wedding registry, that alerted her to a purchased gift.

Christine Holmes, who is also engaged, received the email. She decided to buy the couple a $39 cake server and send them a note.

“Unfortunately, I won’t make it to your wedding because....we do not know each other!” Holmes wrote to the couple. “It seems as though you sent this email in error. I double checked your website to make sure I did not know you or your fiancé, and your story was very cute. I am so sorry your wedding was delayed because of COVID-19. Sometimes things that seem like accidents aren’t actually accidents. So in the spirit of good will towards you and your fiancé, I have purchased a small gift for you both from your registry.”

During an interview with WHDH Boston 7, Holmes said, “It’s nothing much, but sometimes acts of kindness are transformative...”

“That was special to me at least, because to see someone you never met before feeling that generous to be able to help us out,” Vincent said.

Daniels agreed. “With [COVID-19], you would have thought it separated a lot of people, but I find that it’s really brought a lot of people in this world together.”

The couple plans on repaying Holmes by mailing her a wedding gift from her registry once she posts it online.
