You Could Watch Rare Episodes of 'The Carol Burnett Show' For the First Time In 50 Years
It's been 50 years since The Carol Burnett Show first aired on September 11, 1967. Throughout its 11-year run, the sketch comedy became one of the most beloved television shows of all time. But to this day, most of the episodes have not been seen since they were originally broadcast. That could all change thanks to a deal with CBS Television Distribution (CTD).
Soon, you could be able to watch all 11 seasons of The Carol Burnett Show, including many rare episodes. CTD recently acquired the digital multicast rights to the archive of more than 276 hours of programming. The news comes just a month after the show's 50th anniversary special, which an impressive 17.18 million viewers tuned in to watch.
Get ready to share laughs with the show's stars such as Carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, Tim Conway, and the late Harvey Korman.
"I'm thrilled to be back home at CBS, and I'm so happy that future generations will be able to see and enjoy the fun we had in those 11 wonderful years," Burnett said in a press release.
While there's no set date or place to watch yet, Variety reports thatCTD will shop the show to digital multicast channels (think Tribune's Antenna TV and Weigel Broadcasting's Me TV).
"Carol Burnett is one of the very finest comedic performers in the history of television," CTD President Paul Franklin said. "Acquiring digital rights to her library allows us to not only ensure that the show's legacy is protected, but that her genius is also shared with audiences for years to come."
