Costco Just Dropped a Tasty and Nostalgic New Bakery Item, and Shoppers are Rushing to Find It
These days, there’s pretty much a perfect dessert suited for just about any occasion, and Costco might have made them all. Take a quick trip to the fan-favorite bulk retailer on any day of the week and you will discover an array of seasonal baked goods that are guaranteed to make your mouth water. No matter what your preferences may be, chances are that Costco will stock its shelves with a personal favorite or two at least once a year.
As we make our way through the final weeks of summer, it's normal to get excited about autumn and its familiar colors, smells and flavors. And while Costco can’t help but get ahead of a good seasonal trend, the bakery department hasn’t entirely abandoned our favorite summer flavors just yet. A new cake is on the block, and it just might be the perfect transitional treat between summer and fall seasons.
Spotted by a dedicated membership holder last week while shopping at their local warehouse, the Kirkland Signature Pineapple Upside Down Cake has officially made its arrival in Los Angeles. Fans of the cake's classic, retro style can expect it popping up at warehouse locations nationwide, however, it has yet to be confirmed as to who will be receiving the cakes first. As of now, all we know is that it's made with glazed bits of pineapple packed atop a soft yellow cake.

The price and the size of the cake have yet to be confirmed, however, the cake looks to be about 12-inches in diameter and at least an inch and a half thick. Compared to another one of Costco’s seasonal staples, the fan-favorite pumpkin pie also features a 12-inch diameter and retails for $5.99. So here’s hoping the pineapple upside down cake doesn’t break the $10 mark.
Upside down cakes are a mid-century classic that are both nostalgic and timeless in their own right. An upside-down cake is baked “upside down” in a single pan with all of the toppings packed into the bottom of the pan. When the cake is removed from the oven, the final product is flipped over and de-panned onto a serving tray, now right-side up.
Pineapple upside down cakes generally consist of cake batter that has been poured over pineapple, brown sugar and butter (usually in a skillet). Nuts and maraschino cherries can also be added to the mix, however, not entirely necessary. This Costco offering looks to be of the classic pineapple upside-down cake persuasion, with its beautiful golden brown color making it all too hard to resist.
