How to Make Your Corn on the Cob Taste Like It Came From Wingstop
Corn on the cob is one of those classic side dishes that make just about any meal complete. It's easy to find, especially during the summer, and even easier to make.
But if you've never had fried corn, you are seriously missing out, and no one does fried corn quite like Wingstop. The fast-casual chain may be known for its variety of amazing chicken wings, but its fried corn on the cob is a cult favorite among fans online. The secret to making your fried corn taste like it came from Wingstop is a really good Cajun seasoning.
Why You Should Add Cajun Seasoning to Fried Corn
You love it on shrimp, fries and chips, popcorn and pasta. Adding Cajun seasoning to fried corn infuses the dish with bold, complex flavors that enhance the natural sweetness of the corn. The subtle heat from the cayenne pepper provides a pleasant kick, making the dish more exciting and flavorful. This simple addition transforms a basic side into wonderful side dish for your summer barbecues and an easy way to add some excitement to a routine weeknight dinner. It's easy and delicious, and you don't have to make a run to Wingstop!
What Cajun Seasoning Should You Use?
A Redditor asked Wingstop employees to share the secret spices used to make the fried corn, and one person responded that it's "just sweet corn put in the fryer and then tossed Cajun seasoning on it."
While we don't know the exact Cajun seasoning ratios that Wingstop uses, you could try making your own or you could buy one. One of the most popular brands of Louisiana seasoning is Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning, which you can get in a variety of spice levels. It has all the different herbs and spices you need to add some flavor to your fried corn: black pepper, white pepper, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and paprika.
How to Add Cajun Seasoning to Fried Corn
Contrary to what you're used to, you fry the corn before you season it. Content creator Stephanie Manley posted a video on YouTube explaining how to fry the corn the Wingstop way.
According to Stephanie, you take a few ears of frozen mini corn that have been thawed and patted dry and fry them in vegetable oil until they are golden brown. Then, you coat the corn in the seasoning and drizzle more vegetable oil on top. You can also use melted butter if you prefer the taste of that to the oil. Give the corn a good stir in the mixture and that's all it takes to make the perfect copycat Wingstop fried Cajun corn.
