Here’s How the CLIQ Folding Chair Saved My Sanity
There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.
On Trial: CLIQ Folding Chair
The Tester: Stefan Vazharov — a senior tech editor who desperately needs to spend more time outdoors
The Brief: The CLIQ folding chair saved my sanity by allowing me to comfortably work from Central Park.
It’s a well-known fact that having a private outdoor space is a bona fide luxury in New York City. And even though there are plenty of amazing parks for those of us who don’t have such a space, like myself, the new reality we’ve been living in since March has had a profoundly devastating effect on the time I spent outdoors.
After 6 months of working remotely from my living room, no commuting or traveling, and only short daily walks to keep me sane, I felt a desperate need for more sun and fresh air. Which is why, when I stumbled upon the CLIQ folding chair while mindlessly scrolling through Instagram on a warm late-summer night, I couldn’t help but get excited about trying one out. At a quick glance, this product that began its journey as a wildly successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign looked like just what I needed.
When folded, the CLIQ chair is the size of a big water bottle. It weighs well under 4 pounds and it fits easily in a commuter backpack, a messenger bag, or a tote bag. It’s as easy to carry around as a folding chair can be. The insane portability is what sets the product apart from all other folding chairs.
Setting up the chair takes mere seconds and a few clicks (hence its name). I found the process to be intuitive and oddly satisfying. Folding it back is just as easy.
The CLIQ chair is crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum, as well as waterproof and tear-resistant ballistic nylon with sturdy double stitching. According to its maker, it can support up to 300 lbs, and its four legs have rubber tips which are easy to clean and sanitize after an outing.
I was blown away by how comfy the CLIQ was when I tried it for the first time in my living room. It adjusted as I moved, making me feel as if I were sitting 12 inches above the ground in a small armchair, not in a portable chair that effortlessly fits in my bag.
The product’s lumbar support is exceptional and among the reasons why you should consider it. I could kick back in total comfort, even with a laptop or a big-screen tablet in my lap.
Closing Argument: I spent several weeks with the CLIQ chair and enjoyed having it in my life. By fitting in my bag alongside a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard and a portable battery pack, among other essentials, it allowed me to work from Central Park in a spot of my choosing. It fulfilled a need for nature I've had since the pandemic began, so it's worth every penny of its $130 price tag.
The product’s nylon seat is available in a multitude of colors. CLIQ also offers convenient bags for carrying up to six chairs.
