Church surprises man with donations so he can get his 2 front teeth for Christmas
Just like the 1948 novelty song, all this Kansas man wanted for Christmas was his two front teeth — and he wasn’t shy about leaning into the joke for all of Facebook to see.
It was just last Christmas that Evans Kamuru lost one of his front teeth while wrapping presents. He admits that cutting the tape with the aid of his front teeth, both of which had crowns on them, was “not the best idea.”
“As I was doing it I felt something literally fly out of my mouth. Right on the carpet was my right upper front tooth,” he told WDAF-TV. Two days after ringing in 2018, Kamuru lost his other front tooth while biting into a waffle.
On Tuesday, Kamuru shared a video of him singing the classic “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth,” and now he will get them.
Kamuru did see a dentist about implants, but the expensive procedure wasn’t feasible for his family. He and his wife have two daughters and a 5-year-old son, Zeke, who has autism, and their main financial priority is for Zeke’s care. As Kamuru said, “That comes first.”
Last Saturday, Kamuru’s church, the Gospel Outreach Center of Kansas City, hosted a talent show. During a magic trick, Kamuru was presented with a $14,550 check meant to cover out-of-pocket costs for his dental implants, with the remainder to go towards Zeke’s long-term care.
His friends and family were moved by his humorous Facebook video and started a private group chat, which prompted around 300 people to donate to the cause.
Gordon Dental of Leawood even gave Kamuru a considerable discount on the implants, saving him $6,000.
“God cares,” Kamuru said, “even about the little details of our lives that sometimes you don’t think about.”
