Chip and Joanna Gaines Reveal That "Fixer Upper" Will Return in 2021 on Upcoming Magnolia Network
In April 2018, renovation lovers watched as Fixer Upper aired its last episode on HGTV in a bittersweet finale. That November, Chip and Joanna Gaines revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that they were expanding their Magnolia empire and launching their very own TV network with Discovery Inc., aptly named Magnolia Network. Today we learned that Magnolia Network, slated to launch in 2021, will feature an all-new season of Chip and Joanna Gaines’s hit show Fixer Upper.
The news broke on Instagram this morning as both Chip and Joanna shared a short teaser clip on their accounts announcing the return of their beloved home renovation series. In the clip, Chip is driving Joanna to their next "fixer upper"—but she doesn't know it yet.
"I saw that you put your hammer and tool belt in the back— what's that about?" Joanna pries. "I like to have it just in case," Chip says, trying not to give anything away. He tells his wife that he has a surprise and she’s going to love it. Joanna, unenthused by her husband’s typical shenanigans, asks: "where are we going?" as Chip continues driving. Finally, he pulls up in front of a run-down house that could use a little fixing up.
As they get out of the car, Joanna is advised to keep her eyes closed. "I signed us up for another season of Fixer Upper," he exclaims as he unveils the surprise to his wife. "Are you serious?" Joanna asks in a solemn tone. "I answered the office phone like you told me never to do," he says to confirm.
Joanna maintains her composure, appearing to be taking it all in at once. Finally, she breaks her silence. "Well, can I tell you a secret," she says. "I've kind of missed it."
Chip hands her a notebook and she taps it against his hammer. "Let's do it," she says, as the Waco, TX dream team walks toward their next farmhouse style reno. Chip puts his arm around his wife. I scream from the privacy of my own home.
The clip then notes that Fixer Upper is returning in 2021. But this time "only on Magnolia Network," flashes across the screen, establishing that the series that originally started on HGTV in 2013 will make its epic return on the Gaines's very own network next year.
Exciting, right? We already knew Joanna Gaines would have her very own cooking show on Magnolia Network, but we never thought Fixer Upper would be revived. While we wait to hear more details on this epic comeback, you can check out this list of the network's already-confirmed shows, which includes a series with the Gaines's good friends, folk musical duo, Johnnyswim.
