600 chicken fingers go missing ahead of graduation party: 'I never made a contingency plan'

How does a person mistakenly pick up an order for 600 chicken fingers?

That's what two graduating high school seniors and their families are wondering after another customer took their sizable order at Raising Cane's chicken in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Taylor Brodersen and Jimmy Lu had pre-ordered at the restaurant for their joint graduation party over the weekend. Lu, who is an exchange student from China, had told Minneapolis news station KARE 11 that his host mother went to Raising Cane’s, but was told that the fingers had already been picked up.

"I was kind of in shock," Taylor said. "Like, someone stole our chicken?"

Apparently, someone went into the store, claimed the order under their name and walked away with the pre-paid chicken fingers.

Shane Brodersen, Taylor’s dad, said that this wasn't a concern he initially had while planning the grad party.

"I never made a contingency plan for stolen chicken," he told the station.

"What do you do with all those chicken fingers?" Jimmy wondered.

Still, the manager of the restaurant worked to make it right. With his crew, the Raising Cane’s staff prepped 200 chicken fingers right away for the graduation party, KARE 11 reported. An hour later, the team had the remaining 400 ready to go.

A Raising Cane's spokesperson, Adam Jennrich, area leader of restaurants, released a statement on the incident.

"Sunday afternoon, two customers came in separately to pick up the same large order. Customer service is a top priority for us, so we worked as quickly as possible to replace the order. As of now, we are unclear if this was simply a mistake or intentional. We are currently investigating the situation and that will determine next steps."
