Cher Turns 75 — Here Are Her Most Amazing Over-the-Top Moments
Cher has long been one of our favorite stand-out female singers in an industry that was dominated by men for years and years — and now she is 75! Happy birthday to the Goddess of Pop! From her rise to fame as part of the duo, Sonny & Cher, to her on-screen role in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, one thing’s for certain: no matter the decade, Cher has always been an icon.
And in true icon fashion, she just announced on Twitter that a biopic will be made about her amazing life. Can you even imagine the costumes? The film will be produced by Cher, along with the same masterminds behind Mamma Mia!, with no release date yet.
We cannot wait to see whoever plays Cher take on her larger than life approach to hair, makeup, clothes, and basically everything. She has truly has always been one of a kind, but it was back in the 1960s when the best-selling artist first emerged as a trendsetter with her hippie fashion. Think: bell bottoms, tunics, and bandanas. In 1967, Cher met designer Bob Mackie on the set of the The Carol Burnett Show, and the two of them went on to create some of her most famous red-carpet looks. Think: sparkle, glitz, glamour.
It should probably come as no surprise, then, that in 1999, the Council of Fashion Designers of America recognized Cher with an award for her influence on the fashion industry — and for inspiring the style of many pop singers and celebrities who came after her.
So, in honor of her 75th birthday, we're taking a look at some of our favorite Cher looks from over the years.
