Chance the Rapper Marries Kirsten Corley After Life-Long Love Story
You can now call him Chance the husband.
Chance the Rapper married longtime girlfriend Kirsten Corley this weekend in a destination wedding at the Pelican Hill resort in Newport Beach, California.
The couple’s official ceremony was held about three months after they had married in a civil courthouse ceremony in Chicago on December 27.
Their love story culminates after the groom’s adorable Twitter thread about how they first met went viral this week. “Storytime. A thread on how I met my wife,” the Chicago-based artist (nee Chancelor Johnathan Bennett) wrote alongside a sweet throwback pic of his wife.
“I was 9 yrs old at the time,” wrote Chance. “So I was prolly oblivious to what was going on and had no say in how I spent my evenings, anyway. That being said I was probably playing a gameboy in a corner or eating candy, initially unimpressed by my surroundings.”
He then launched into a sweet tale about how his future wife performed in a trio of girls to Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women.” He recalled, “All three heads begin to raise slowly in unison. They look like angels.”
“Now I’m locking eyes with the prettiest girl [I’ve] ever seen in my almost-a-decade of life on earth,” he continued. “I really shouldn’t even say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her.”
His father encouraged Chance at the time to dance with the girls. “Young me was shy,” he said. “This wasn’t the time or place. Not just because it wasn’t my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks. It’s cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl.”
Sixteen years after their initial encounter, Corley and Bennett now share a young daughter and are officially married.
“This wknd is the time, and the place is my wedding,” he concluded. “I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”
