The Celine Dion Suite at This Canadian Hotel Will Make Your Heart Go On

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Recognized for being the most photographed hotel in the world, the Chateau is an iconic landmark in Québec City’s skyline inspired by the castles in France’s Loire Valley. The Chateau has planned a full year of celebration with events and expositions culminating on December 18, 2018 — the official birthday of Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac.

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac has played a large role in Canadian history. It was the second hotel built by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, led by William Cornelius Van Horne, as a way to encourage luxury tourism and railway travel across Canada. The Chateau is located near the Citadel on old archeological sites where New France was founded within the walls of Old Québec. During World War II, the Chateau was the site of the Québec Conference between Canadian Prime Minster William Lyon Mackenzie King, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and American President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Over the last 125 years, it has also welcomed a number of dignitaries and celebrities through its magnificent doors.

To celebrate the 125th anniversary, Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac will be upgrading their eight executive suites all named after famous personalities who have stayed at the hotel. The suites are named after current Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and his father and former Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Alfred Hitchcock, Queen Elizabeth II, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Cornelius Van Horne, Charles de Gaulle, and Céline Dion.

The Céline Dion Executive Heritage Suite commemorates the important role the hotel played in propelling Céline Dion into the international sensation that she is today. By the time Céline Dion was 18 in 1990, she had already recorded nine albums, won numerous awards internationally and released her first English album “Unison.”

However, it was in the ballroom at Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac where Céline got her big break into the American market.

Her manager, and late husband, René Angélil organized a private performance for two Sony Music Entertainment record executives. A few days later, Céline Dion and René Angélil found themselves in New York City signing an international recording contract estimated to be worth more than $10 million dollars. This led to the recording of her international breakthrough duet with Peabo Bryson singing the title track on Disney’s animated film “Beauty and the Beast,” for which she won her first Grammy.

Because of that moment in the ballroom, Céline Dion and her late husband René Angélil had an affinity to Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac telling the general manager, Robert Mercure, that whenever they came to Québec City, this is the only place they would stay.

The Céline Dion Heritage Suite includes design features that have been inspired by the singer. The suite is a blend of classic art deco style with a modern chic flair accented with mauve and pink details. It is distinctly feminine in its design, contrasting the regal gold and peacock blue décor throughout the Chateau.

The suite has also been decorated with images by the family’s photographer Roland Lachance. Traveling and working closely with Céline over the years, Roland has been able to capture an exclusive and intimate look into Céline’s life which will be displayed throughout the suite. Lachance has a long history with the Chateau Frontenac, photographing a number of celebrities during their visits to the hotel over the years.

The Céline Dion Heritage Suite is officially open for booking starting in April. Rates for the room start at $1399 CAD (about $1,090 USD) per night to experience the newly renovated suite. Guests can also book the 125th Anniversary offer until December 21.
