The Celebration Issue
Happiest holidays! Welcome to our final digital issue of 2023, which celebrates, well, celebration itself! Whether you’re reflecting on your own accomplishments or marking the festive season by spending time with friends and family, the end of the year is the perfect moment to embrace joy and fête where you are right now.
When it came to choosing the cover star for this issue, no one was a match for Naomi Osaka. In our cover story, Advantage Naomi, the four-time Grand Slam champion shares details about one monumental event she celebrated this year — the birth of her daughter, Shai — and another she is looking forward to in 2024 — the Brisbane International tournament in Australia, which marks her return to tennis. Today, the mother, entrepreneur, and athlete is a greater force than ever before.
Elsewhere in the issue we find more ways — and reasons — to celebrate. In Baby It’s Bold Outside we’re all about swapping our dark and decidedly sensible winter coats for bolder, brighter, and, in one case, sparklier cold-weather toppers. With Double the Joy: Beauty Gifts That Give Back, we highlight female-founded brands that give to charities with each purchase, to make your gift-giving even more meaningful. And in Anatomy of an Investment Piece, we pay tribute to a pair of boots that are already Kate Middleton-approved and about to make their Netflix debut (who’s ready for The Crown Season 6 Part 2?!).
So, no matter how you choose to observe 2023 coming to close (and whether you feel like celebrating or not), I hope you find something in this issue that will make your day a littler more merry and bright.
Tinseltown
As we forge ahead into the holidays, turn up the volume on your personal style with an eye-catching and ASMR-worthy trend: festive fringe. The razzle-dazzle ornamentation proved itself an unapologetic denial of the muted callings of “quiet luxury” this season, its popularity and versatility speaking volumes on the runways of fashion houses including Gucci, Prada, and Rabanne. Meanwhile the packed arenas of the Eras and Renaissance Tours saw concertgoers decked out in fringe that shimmered like a disco ball. No matter how you decide to frolic this month, a flounce of fringe will surely give you reason to celebrate.
