Do Yourself a Favor and Pick Up One of These Whiskeys Soon
Whether you're looking for something to sip neat, mix into a refreshing cocktail, or even cook with, whiskey is a good choice. But there are also a lot of choices of whiskey out there! From scotch to bourbon to Irish whiskey and more, it can be hard to get a grasp on the differences, much less what's good.
Here, then, is a short (and incomplete) list of a few of our favorites, from a variety of categories. These are tried-and-true staples that we know you'll like, whether you're just dipping your toes in, or you've been enjoying your favorite bottles for years. Give 'em a try, and let us know what you think (or what you'd recommend) in the comments below!

1) Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Woodford Reserve
drizly.com
$39.99
Choosing a "best" bourbon is a bit of a fool's errand. There's something out there for almost every set of tastebuds, and many of them are quite terrific. But the combination of quality, availability, and price makes Woodford hard to best. It's the one we probably pour the most.
2) Jameson Irish Whiskey
Jameson
drizly.com
$30.62
If you're a whiskey fan who hasn't tried Jameson—or perhaps hasn't tried it recently — let this be your chance. Affordable, supremely well balanced, and frankly very drinkable, Jameson has a clear claim to being the drink that made Irish Whiskey famous.
3) Glenmorangie Original 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky
Glenmorangie
drizly.com
$56.15
Scotch can be an intimidating category of whiskies for newcomers. The combination of intensely fierce fans, intricate terminology, and arcane brands and labels makes it hard to grasp.
Our recommendation? Start here. This very approachable (and respectable) bottle is the best way to make introductions, and it remains a stalwart choice even for experts.
4) Bearface Elementally Aged Triple Oak Canadian Whisky
drizly.com
$34.49
If your idea of Canadian whiskey is "it comes in a purple bag, right?" then do yourself a favor and track down a bottle of Bearface. Canadian whiskeys are less sweet than American bourbons, and this very good bottle is a great example of what that can mean, both in mixed drinks and on its own.
5) Bulleit Rye
Bulleit
drizly.com
$32.99
If bourbon is America's handsome cowboy heartthrob, then rye is his slightly more grizzled older brother — still good looking, but not quite as sweet. It's a drink we go for when the day has been longer than expected, and Bulleit's rye is the one we reach for more than most.
Try these tipples for a taste of true Irish gold. From Jameson to Tullamore D.E.W., we found the best choices, starting under $30.
