Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion Are Releasing a Song Together This Week
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are releasing a new song together titled "WAP," the artists announced last night.
The collaboration comes months after Stallion teamed up with Beyoncé for a remix of her hit "Savage."
Women in music have been delivering the collaborations as quarantine rolls on, including Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, and soon Dua Lipa, Madonna, and Missy Elliott. Now, we can thankfully add Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion to the already impressive list.
The rappers broke the news last night that they're releasing a track called "WAP" on Friday, much to the delight of their fan bases. The announcement came with the unveiling of bold, new cover art, featuring the duo posing back-to-back with their tongues out and their updos intertwining before a bright pink background.

The news also arrives months after Stallion squashed speculation that she and Cardi were beefing. After some YouTube users accused her of liking comments disparaging Cardi on the video-sharing site, she dispelled the rumors on Twitter. "I don't like drama I do not bring other females down stop trying to start fake beef," she tweeted, shutting down the antiquated, sexist habit of pitting successful women against each other.
Stallion even stood up for Cardi in an interview last year on E!'s Daily Pop, in which the Bronx rapper was compared to Nicki Minaj. "I feel like we need to stop trying to compare them... I love both of them, so I would definitely like to collaborate with Cardi, too," Stallion said.
In fact, Stallion didn't speak out about just the false competition narrative for her and Cardi; she also defended women in hip-hop in general, who experience the double standard of comparison when their male counterparts don't. "I just don't give a fuck about competition. It's not that serious," she previously told i-D magazine. "You know how many men make music without biting each other's heads off? Why do we have to do that? There's room for everybody."
"WAP" is the latest of Stallion's collaborations with female superstars in hip-hop, including "Savage (Remix)" with Beyoncé in April and the 2019 anthem, "Hot Girl Summer," with Nicki Minaj last August. This is also the first song from the Houston rapper following her shooting injury, which she recently described on Instagram as "the worst experience of my life."
