Cardi B Angelic 2018 Grammys Looks Took 150 Hours to Create
Not only is Cardi B an incredibly talented rapper, she’s also a bonafide fashion mogul — a fact she proved at the 60th Annual Grammys when she practically *floated* onto the red carpet in an angelic white gown by Ashi Studio.
The high-low custom mullet frock featured cascading tulle and a structural back that gave the appearance of wings, all embroidered with lace and ostrich feathers. Stylist Kollin Carter completed the look with opulent Messaki ear-crawler earrings and a glitzy bracelet and ring combo plus lace Christian Louboutin heels.
As the label’s creative director, Mohammed Ashi, told InStyle, the elegant garment and the strapless pre-Grammy buttoned look she donned to Clive Davis’ annual bash took a combined 150 hours to create(!) and was inspired by “a girl who always dreamt of going to the moon.” “[We had] six main couture seamstresses working on it,” he shared with the outlet.
As for the gown’s angelic hue, the designer explained that it fit with his brand’s overall aesthetic. “I tend to stick to a palette of off-white and black,” the Saudi designer told The Hollywood Reporter, “because it’s the aesthetic for the house; we do dramatic volumes and embroidery so I try to keep it basic with the color.”
The “Bodak Yellow” singer’s strapless red carpet gown certainly *was* dramatic, thanks to its butterfly sleeves and plunging meshed neckline, and though Ashi said that he was originally considering adding color to the Grammy nominee’s gown, “At the last minute, we decided not to introduce any colors.”
Judging by the final look, we think he made an excellent choice!
