Cara Delevingne Says Viral Photos of Erratic Behavior Gave Her a 'Reality Check'
The actress and model is getting a fresh start as she enters her 30s.
Cara Delevingne personally went through a lot over the past few years, and she came out the other side better and more sure of herself. As for what drove her to finally get help, Delevingne cited viral paparazzi photos from last September as a huge reason, calling them a "reality check."
In VOGUE's new cover story, Delevingne opened up about photos taken of her behaving erratically at the airport late last year that really concerned family, friends, and fans.
Page Six reported on the photos, which showed Delevingne with messy hair and no shoes on, acting strange. She even kicked her feet out of the car window at one point after not being allowed on a flight.
At the time, Delevingne was returning from weeks of partying in Ibiza and at Burning Man before heading to a work engagement, with the 30-year-old saying, “It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, 'Okay, I don’t look well.'”
She went on, "You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way those pictures were something to be grateful for.”
Soon after, with the support of her friends and those who care about her, Delevingne got help for her addiction.
In a video interview accompanying the story, Delevingne went into more detail about what happened after the photos came out, saying, "At that point, you know, there [were] a lot of people who were very worried. Understandably so. I wasn't really worried though."
Those around Delevingne told her that she needed help, but she was resistant, and it wasn't until she came to the decision herself that any change and recovery was possible.
The model and actress said, "All I knew is, like, if I was continuing to go down the road I was, I would either end up dead or, like, doing something really, really stupid. And I think that...That was scary."
You can catch new episodes of Delevingne's series Carnival Row, opposite Orlando Bloom, airing weekly on Prime Video.
