Canandaigua will be in 'Bloom' on Saturday

CANANDAIGUA, NY — Downtown will be abuzz on Saturday for Canandaigua in Bloom. A host of events are meant to entice folks to get outside and enjoy the spring. Here are four activities you don’t want to miss.

Canandaigua's Central on Main opens

At noon June 1, a grand opening of the Central on Main will be held, and new construction and new Canandaigua Rotary Stage will be officially unveiled.

The Movers will christen the new stage from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening.

Central on Main is the city's outdoor dining area between Simply Crepes and Ontario County Chamber of Commerce building on Main Street.

Canandaigua Farmers Market opens

The summer season of the Canandaigua Farmers Market begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. The market will be held at the Mill Street pavilion from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday until the end of October.

Canandaigua businesses get into the 'spring' of things

Visitors will be able to enjoy outdoor dining (weather permitting, of course), and retailers old and new will be showcasing their spring and summer merchandise. Participating businesses will also hand out free seed packages while supplies last.

A new business, also tied into the theme of the day, will be in the spotlight.

A grand opening for In Bloom Florals, 87 S. Main St., Canandaigua, will be held at 10 a.m.

Find your summer Finger Lakes read

The Finger Lakes Authors and Readers Experience, or FLARE, will be setting up shop at the Central on Main for its Words in Bloom event, showcasing books set in the Finger Lakes or written by regional authors.

FLARE’s mission is to bring Finger Lakes authors and the people who write about the region to readers. Plenty of activities are planned throughout the day, including a scavenger hunt, free poetry reading and writing workshops and sessions on writing and publishing.
