Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Crashes a Wedding—In a Kayak
A most welcome wedding guest! Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau crashed one bride and groom’s big day in the most unusual way: via kayak.
The dapper politician was enjoying time out on the water with his wife, Sophie, in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve near Victoria on Saturday, August 5, when he spotted a bride and groom enjoying a boat ride. Trudeau then took it upon himself to paddle over to the pair and pose for a selfie with the newlyweds.
“He said, ‘I’m not going to take my shirt off this time,”‘ bride Michelle Gruetzner told CTV News, referring to Trudeau’s shirtless beachside appearance at a wedding ceremony last summer. Her husband, Heiner Gruetzner, added, “It’s a nice addition to the photo album.”
Trudeau’s personal photographer Adam Scotti captured the sweet moment and tweeted out a series of photos from the encounter, sending Twitter into a whirlwind of emotions.

Wouldn’t be a trip to Vancouver Island without a wedding!

Not long after the impromptu meet-and-greet, Trudeau fell out of his kayak, though he good-naturedly kept a smile on his face and dark sunglasses firmly affixed to his face. “I’m just happy the national media was there to capture that,” he joked.
