Cameron Mathison Says His New Hallmark Movie “The Christmas Club” Saved His Life
Hallmark star Cameron Mathison is a good reminder to pay attention to the little things in life. On Sept. 10, The Christmas Club star shared news of his kidney cancer. It wasn’t until Nov. 13, however, that he revealed what led him to make the life-saving discovery in the first place.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Cameron shared that The Christmas Club, which premieres on Hallmark on Nov. 27, “is about following the signs and looking at the little things in your life as little signs and indications of decisions to make.”
It was on the set of the TV movie that Cameron realized it’s important to be mindful and pay attention to all of your gut instincts, especially those related your health.
“I came off this movie [thinking], ‘I’m not going to ignore this anymore,’” he said. “That’s what inspired me to go get a doctor’s recommendation to get an MRI.”
And thank goodness he did. After getting the scans, doctors discovered the tumor, which occupied nearly 20% of his right kidney, and that they concluded had been growing for at least the past 10 years.
On Sept. 20, following a successful surgery the week prior, the 50-year-old ET correspondent and Home & Family co-host shared a photo to Instagram that brought his experience full-circle.
“Half of my life I was focused on the aesthetics of my body and about half of my career I spent shirtless... now I proudly bear the scars that made me cancer free,” wrote Cameron.
Fast forward to November, and Cameron is regaining his energy and is back to feeling like himself—all of which he credits to his new movie. “It saved my life,” Cameron said. “See? These Hallmark Christmas movies are more powerful than you know.”
